CJ Day

CJ Day
Student Learning Center on the UGA Griffin Campus

The University of Georgia’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Sociology will host the 3rd Annual CJDay@UGA conference on Friday, November 11, 2016, from 8 am until 1 pm in the Student Learning Center on the UGA Griffin Campus. The conference, whose theme is “Building Community and Promoting Social Justice Every Day,” is free and open to the public. However, because seating is limited, registration is required.

The conference will explore issues currently affecting communities as well as potential solutions that the law can offer in addressing matters of social injustice. Key topics include Georgia’s response to human trafficking, current concerns in environmental justice, an overview of the new Griffin-Spalding Archway Partnership, an introduction to local resources and opportunities to assist veterans in transitioning back into our communities, and the counter-intuitive effects of mass incarceration on families and communities. In addition, because the law profession is one of the most intellectually stimulating careers for individuals interested in social justice reform, the conference will include a presentation on law school admission to help interested individuals determine if law school should be in their future.  Leah Ward Sears, former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, practicing attorney, and ardent proponent of law in service of the public good, will present the keynote address at 11:50 am. Justice Sears’ address is titled “The Color of Justice.”

Undoubtedly, those individuals aligned with the justice professions – law, law enforcement, judicial authorities, teachers, and social workers – as well as students and all civic-minded individuals will come away from this conference with a renewed commitment to building community and promoting social justice each and every day. Be the change you want to see in your community and join us for the conversation. Click here to register today.
