The Sociology Department is housed in Baldwin Hall Our UGA Sociology faculty members are excellent scholars. They publish research articles in top tier journals and books in leading academic presses, receive major grants, consistently win research awards from the university and from professional associations, and regularly give invited presentations on their research at other top national and international institutions. We embrace a wide variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods, our innovative research is often interdisciplinary, collaborative, and international, and we regularly involve undergraduate and graduate students in our research projects. Our UGA Sociology faculty members are also excellent and innovative teachers. We have five Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professors, which is the highest teaching designation on campus. Our faculty members positively and meaningfully impact our students’ academic careers and their lives. And they regularly win teaching awards from Franklin College, from the university, and from professional associations, including the sole winner of the highest teaching award across the entire University System of Georgia in 2025.
